How do we get these problems out of the way?

A Framework (Or, if you prefer, a Toxonomy)

How do we eliminate the problems that get in the way of an inclusive workplace? Here is a toxonomy:  a way to parse the different toxic behaviors that will destroy your team’s ability to collaborate. I hope this simple visual will help you stay oriented, even in the face of situations that may feel bewildering.

These behaviors all differ, but are the same in the sense that they threaten the collaboration and respect within your organization.

In order to stay focused on solutions not problems, this book will offer two frameworks. The first Radical Respect framework will help you figure out whether you are dealing with bias, prejudice or bullying, and what to do about it. The second framework will help you figure out what to do when power creates the conditions for discrimination, harassment, and physical violations.

Wesley Faulkner and I discuss this toxonomy in this week’s podcast episode. Wesley will tell a story about a racist hotel manager who refused to let him check into a hotel–and we’ll see how prejudice becomes discrimination when a person has even a little bit of power. You can hear it wherever you like to get your podcasts, or here: https://www.justworktogether.com/podcast-season-2/episode-8-what-gets-in-the-way-of-radical-respect
